Skydiving: Something everyone and their moms wants to do yet doesn't have the courage to do it. The only reason why I am OKAY with saying this is because I was indeed one of those people. It wasn't until I was just days away from my 21st birthday that I realized what the definition of 'YOLO' was. I know what you are thinking, "Really, Liz? YOLO?" Please, Let me explain....
Every other guy or girls typical 21st birthday normally ends up in Vegas, am I right? (If not, we need we need to be friends) It didn't really hit me until I was talking to someone about making sure everything I wanted to do should be done in my 20's. Mind, you almost being 1 year in made me realize that I haven't done anything I was afraid of or desired to do at all! The saying "You Only Live Once" just resonated with me after realizing that my life is so short and all of the opportunities I have dreamt of doing could go away at any point in my life..
I ran to my room and wrote down a list of all the things I wanted to do and it looked like this:
- Conquer my fear of heights
- Conquer my fear of airplanes
- Travel more
- Finally marry George Clooney
I know what you're thinking, "Why not do #4 first, Liz?" Well, truthfully, I have to conquer a lot of different things before I can settle down - George can wait. After re reading my list, it hit me, "why don't I combine #1 & #2 together? IT WAS SO SCARY IT WAS BRILLIANT. I immediately went to propose my idea to my mom and she quickly turned it down. Luckily enough, I was able to witness my step dad do it a few months back. I tried to compare situations (which is dumb as each is different but it worked) proving to her that it was safe and a fun process. The "no" quickly turned into a "yes".
I ended up going to Skydive Arizona which was dead smack in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. I will be honest, if you have another opportunity to skydive, I would suggest trying a place with a bit more than desert. Might be more interesting! ;) Mind you, I had a BLAST jumping out of this zone this is just a recommendation AFTER I jumped. I mean, I think my pictures can give you an idea of how much fun I had:
